We are fortunate to have Alain Bernheim's blessing to
reprint an article that he wrote over a dozen years ago.
Because the story that he examines is still repeated today, it
         is very relevant.
The story as I was told 15+ years ago, was that German
Freemasons in WWII identi¿ ed themselves right under the
noses of the Nazi regime by wearing a blue Forget-me-not
À ower lapel pin, and to commemorate their brave resistance,
         it was adopted after war.
If anyone should feel obliged to cheer for a story that showed
courageous Freemasons standing up to the Nazis, it is Bro.
Alain, who, at the age of 12, was arrested by the Gestapo,
and was imprisoned in a concentration camp.
Bro. Alain is rightly considered by many today as a living
legend, the Dean of Masonic research - as such, he lets
the evidence speak for itself, and concludes that the heroic
story meant to portray most or all German Masons as
having de¿ antly advertised their membership and yet at
the same time nobody noticing all of these men wearing
matching pins, when wearing any non-authorized pins was
illegal, originated in the growing in the retelling of how a
single winter's possible dodging of giving money in a war
collection drive eৼ ort is accomplished by wearing the
