                                                Resolution No. 2016-02
A resolution directing the Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. of Montana to require the Masonic Home
Corporation to pay for an annual professional external audit with the results being provided to the
Grand Lodge for publication in their advanced proceedings and for the Annual Communication.

Be it resolved that:
The Masonic Home Corporation be directed to:
Require the Masonic Home of Montana and the Masonic Home Corporation to pay for a professional
external audit each year, which conducts an audit of the finances and operations of the Masonic Home
of Montana and the Masonic Home Corporation, and requires the results of the annual audit be provided
to the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Montana prior to the deadline date for publication in the Advanced
Proceedings and shall be presented at the Annual Communication.
Submitted by Ponemah Lodge No. 63

Proponent’s Explanation of Resolution No. 2016-02:
The services of the Masonic Home and Masonic Home Corporation are reflective of the craft of Montana,
as they are promoted, marketed, and therefore branded as “Masonic”, both in name and symbolism then the
members of the Montana Jurisdiction of Masonry are entitled to a clear and updated understanding of the
financial position of an entity representing Masonry. The Masonic Home and Masonic Home Corporation
are entities that often solicit monies from the craft of Montana Masonry via the Grand Lodge and the entities
provide services to Masons, their affiliates, and non-masons alike, therefore the proponent’s support an
annual audit to provide transparency to the stakeholders, verify accountability to the same, determine and
evaluate fiduciary efficiencies, and to safe guard the persons served by the Masonic Home both in person
and patient privileges. The Masonic Home and Masonic Home Corporation were implemented with the
well being of the fraternal members in mind, therefore an annual audit will determine that the fundamental
designs of the Masonic Home are being satisfied with both sound financial planning and the intent of
operating an efficient means of providing Masonic relief and charity. The proponents of this resolution seek
to require an annual professional external audit of the Masonic Home of Montana and the Masonic Home
Corporation paid for by the same, seek relief to the above rationale through adoption of this resolution,
without significant amendments.

Committee on Jurisprudence Comments:
This resolution does not seek to amend any section of the Constitution or Code, but rather directs Grand
Lodge to require the Montana Masonic Home Corporation to pay for an annual external professional audit
with the results being reported to Grand Lodge.
Since Resolution No. R-2016-02 does not seek to amend the Constitution or Code it needs only a simple
majority (50% + 1) of the eligible voting members of Grand Lodge to pass.
