THE MONTANA FREEMASON

                              Grand Masters Recommendation 2012-05

  A Grand Masters Recommendation to strike section 1060 L from the Statutes of the Grand Lodge
  of AF & AM of Montana.

  Be it resolved that Section 1060 . L of the Code and Statutes be amended as follows:

  1060 DUTIES. The Grand Master shall:
  L. Penalize a lodge for balloting without jurisdiction the sum of $50.00 to be paid to the Grand Treasurer
  for the credit of the Masonic Home Fund for the Grand Lodge General Fund;

  Grand Master’s Rationale:
     The argument of whether or not Grand Lodge should be in the business of levying fines for infractions

  of our code, constitution and requirements is not what is to be debated here. The issue is whether or not
  we should be in the business of levying fines for the benefit of other entities.

  Committee on Jurisprudence Comments:
     This recommendation would remove the Grand Master’s duties under section 1060 to change the

  payment of the fine of $50 for balloting without jurisdiction from the Masonic Home Fund to the Grand
  Lodge General Fund. This recommendation would change the code of statutes and would require an
  affirmative vote of two thirds of the members present to pass.
